What I’m Learning Again
Reading my One Year Reading Plan in the King James Bible, I started in the book of Matthew and Genesis. As of now, I have completed Genesis and I’m currently still in Matthew. In a span of three days, I’ve read Exodus 20, Matthew 19 and Exodus 23. Here’s what I’ve found very significant in these chapters.
Throughout the Bible, I’ve been reminded to keep the commandments.
These commandments are so important as we honor God. We know the list of the ten in Exodus, chapter 20. Now, let’s look at the first and second commandment.
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”- Matthew 22:37-39
As we reflect on these verses, we know true love. The love that is of God. The love that comes directly from Him poured out to us.
So, how do we truly love God? Spending time with Him is where I experience His love. In those quiet moments, I am able to pour out my love to Him. Praising Him for who He is and what He’s done.
Here’s what I’ve found in Matthew 19:
“And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt (want to) enter into life, keep the commandments.” - Matthew 19:17
This verse helps me to reflect on what I’ve learned. Knowing what to obey. Leaning into the righteousness of God. I’m able to review and see where I’m going wrong.
It’s not always easy to notice it at first. Some things don’t seem that bad. Until we are consuming too much of something. Then, where do things stand?
Lastly, in Exodus 23, God explains the importance of the sabbath and to not worship other gods. God gives us rest as a special gift. From all the daily tasks in our lives, He wants to commune with us. He wants us to invite Him in everything, because He is the One truly leading us.
I try to be careful not to put anything above God. What helps me is by taking a step back. Immediately, start removing and casting things down that don’t serve God. Let nothing exalt itself against the knowledge of God.
Remember, God loves you.
The commandments listed in Matthew 19:
“He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness. 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” - Matthew 19:18,19
In 2 Corinthians:
“Casting down imaginations (arguments), and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge (punish) all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” - 2 Corinthians 10:5,6

Great reflection sis. It’s important for us to keep Christ at the center and not idolizing the things around us. It’s easy to get wrapped in the things of this world. but we have to remember that these things are temporary. And not only this, seeking fulfillment outside of Christ will always lead to a dead end.
